It’s National Simplify Your Life Week, a week to get organized and clutter-free for a more stress-free lifestyle. Celebrated every year during the first week of August, it’s the perfect opportunity to ease up and part with the things you don’t need or use, and to put everything in order. Life is one big balancing act but once in a while we need to stop, organize or downsize, and then relax and live a simpler life. There’s a quotation that goes: Live Simply, Love Generously, Care Deeply, Speak Kindly…Leave the rest to God.
Are the things in your house arranged so that you can’t find anything when you need it? This week, take the time to de-clutter – give away or sell the clothes you haven’t used in the last six months, clear out your pantry and medicine cabinet of expired items, go through your email and archive/delete old messages and junk mail. Remember the horrified and overwhelmed feeling that you get whenever you look inside the attic? Now is the perfect time to tackle all that junk and simplify. Nelson Mandela once said, It always seems impossible until it’s done.
Afterwards, don’t forget to give yourself that rare “me” time. Go to the spa for a massage or facial, or have a long, relaxing tub soak at home with music and scented candles. Try it and see. Simplifying will help relieve stress and make your life easier and happier. It’ll also work wonders in your relationships because you’ll be less anxious and have fewer things to worry about.
